Tom K. Faro, OYSAN Executive Director June 19, 2007 Dear League Presidents and/or Representatives: As you may recall, in March of this year, I wrote to all OYSAN leagues indicating that changes Effective immediately, our new registration categories (for clubs & leagues) are as follows:
Rec Plus has been eliminated. Additionally, OYSAN voted at its last meeting to eliminate the $5 per club fee and the $2 per team fee that was previously charged to our leagues. (OYSAN considered these ‘hidden fees’ and has since included these particular charges as part of the per member fee we are charging each member this fall.) OYSAN has absorbed fee increases the past two years from both US Youth Soccer and from the United States Soccer Federation. This means that OYSAN has paid additional fees, on behalf of our members, to our two national bodies without charging our membership. OYSAN cannot continue to absorb these fees. (The latest fee increase from US Youth Soccer was for 25 cents per member.) Thus, commencing this fall, our fees are as follows:
On the risk management front, through legal consultation, and through a review of Ohio’s Best Practices, OYSAN voted to conduct background checks on all coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, board members, etc. annually rather than every two years. This is the best way to ensure that those who have direct contact with our children do not possess criminal histories. Effective September 1, Coaches or leagues will have the ability to apply for risk management clearance(s) online for a small charge of $5. Each check will be good for one full year. The charge will be used solely to cover the costs incurred by OYSAN for the national background checks. (OYSAN will continue to absorb the costs of having a full-time staff member conduct the annual checks, continued legal counsel and the costs associated with OYSAN having to conduct various appeals.)
