Download Application (PDF)
Technical Training for Goalkeepers (Toledo and Kent)
OYSAN ODP Goalkeeper Coach Ian Graham (Toledo) and Kent State Head Coach Rob Marinaro (Kent) present this field session designed to help coaches break down the range of goalkeeper techniques and provide examples of how to conduct goalkeeper-specific training.
How to be a Good Goalkeeper (Kent)
As a complement to his field session, Kent State Head Coach Rob Marinaro turns to the classroom to provide an in-depth analysis of the techniques, tactics, fitness, and psychology of good goalkeepers.
Ages 9-12: The Golden Age for Development (Toledo)
We are pleased to welcome Indiana Youth Soccer’s DOC, Vince Ganzberg for this classroom session which explores the first critical period for soccer development. What is important to teach? How does teaching style impact learning? What are the motivations of the players? How to handle diverse ability groups?
Developing Combination Play (Toledo)
This field session offers practical examples of how to develop combination play through conditioned and open game play. OYSAN DOC Tom Turner presents a game-based approach to coaching and shows how coaches can help shape player-invention without being the dominant influence on the practice.
The Keys to Good Training Sessions (Cleveland, Toledo, and Youngstown)
U-Akron Assistant Coach Dave Giffard (Cleveland), Youngstown State Head Coach Anthony James (Youngstown) and U-Toledo Head Coach Brad Evans (Toledo) present this classroom session discussing the organization and development of the training session. Where do training ideas come from? How are they systematically planned over the course of a season? When is a progression helpful? When is it better to just play? What are the typical options for progression planning? How can coaches bring the session to life? What happens when something isn’t working out? All these thoughts and more…..
Developing a Successful Soccer Program (Akron)
This classroom discussion is presented by Mike Cullina, the Technical Director for Classics Hammer FC in Cincinnati and former Nebraska Youth Soccer DOC. Defining success - National Championships, State Cup Titles, Major Tournament Victories, League Wins, National Team Players, High School/College Players, Membership Numbers, Player Retention - for your organization is the first step in achieving it. Most “successful” soccer organizations have three levels: Recreation, Travel and Premier. How are those levels integrated? How is development structured at each level? How are coaches trained? Who plans the schedules? Who makes decisions about the movement of players? Coach Cullina will discuss these and many more aspects of successful club building.
Coaching within the Game (Kent)
Street soccer produced all soccer’s genuine world-class talents. Without a free play environment, and without the hours necessary to develop in a natural way, coaches must rely on the next best thing: structured practice soccer games. In this field session, former KNVB Staff Coach Paul Driesen shares his insights and expertise on how to effectively use practice time to develop soccer-savvy players.
Individual Defending (Akron)
Individual defending is the key to team defending and U-Akron Head Coach Caleb Porter shares his ideas on how to improve individual play in this practical field session.
Team Trains the Goalkeeper (Akron and Cleveland)
Organizing the outfield players to train specific technical and tactical problems relating to goalkeeping can be a highly efficient use of practice time. U-Akron Assistant Coach Ryan Higginbotham (Cleveland) and a Baldwin-Wallace Head Coach Reid Ayers (Akron) will present this field session showing how the key technical and tactical issues of goalkeeping can be developed in small and large training organizations.
2006 World Cup Analysis and Implications for Youth Coaching (Youngstown)
The World Cup showcases many of the most accomplished soccer players on the planet. What can the typical youth soccer coach learn about training and player development from watching the top players? In this classroom presentation, Youngstown State Head Coach Anthony James takes a look at selected games to uncover some of the answers!
Soccer Fitness (Cleveland)
Soccer players gains very little from running in straight lines, at constant speeds, and devoid of tactical cues. In this practical field session, former KNVB Staff Coach Paul Driesen explains the important elements of soccer fitness and provides examples of how to train young players to become fit for soccer.
Laws of the Game: Practical Applications to Coaching (Cleveland)
Ever been frustrated over your players’ lack of understanding of the playing rules? Do you understand the rules? What about your team parents? In this classroom discussion, OYSAN DOC Tom Turner presents the laws of the game and how they can be taught and applied in practice; and how parents can be dissuaded from offering their unique personal interpretations to match officials!
